Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s Environment Ministry will deploy teams to several industrial areas to identify and address entities contributing to air pollution in Jakarta and its surrounding regions.
Speaking to the media on May 19, Indonesian Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said the ministry is deploying teams to industrial zones. Each week, the teams will conduct mapping and provide guidance to help reduce exhaust gas emissions.
The monitoring process is expected to help identify contributors to air pollution in Jakarta and neighbouring localities over the past time.
The teams will also examine boiler operations in industrial estates as they could worsen air quality during the coming dry season.
According to the State of Global Air 2023 report, Indonesia ranks among the world's top 10 countries with the highest exposure to PM2.5 particles, with annual averages exceeding 30 micrograms per cu.m while the World Health Organidation recommends a threshold of 5 micrograms per cu.m./.
