Vietnam – US tech seminar in Ho Chi Minh City explores AI, innovation

In the digital age and amidst the Fourth Industrial Revolution, IP plays an increasingly critical role, not only in safeguarding inventions but also in reducing copyright infringement and curbing piracy.

Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu laid stress on the significance of the Hanoi Convention, particularly to the Asia – Pacific, to handling legal gaps in international cooperation against rapidly increasing global cybercrime.

The week features a rich lineup of activities, including a plenary conference on blockchain and AI development, thematic seminars on future technology trends and investment visions, applications of blockchain and AI in business, the Super Vietnam PitchFest, as well as forums for blockchain and AI.

According to the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, dated December 22, 2024, on making breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, this is considered a decisive factor in the development of nations. It is seen as a prerequisite and the best opportunity for Vietnam to become prosperous and powerful in the new era of the nation’s rise.

Vietnam’s demographic advantage, including a youthful population of 100 million in a “golden age”, further bolsters its ambitions. Its dynamic workforce, with a natural inclination toward science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), is a key asset in attracting private investment to innovation-driven sectors.

Vietnam views sci-tech as a decisive factor in national development and a key tool for achieving sustainable development goals, and is ready to boost sci-tech cooperation with Venezuela for mutual prosperity.

The Government will always accompany companies, including CMC, and request ministries, agencies, and Hanoi authorities to further support them by promptly removing any obstacles to their growth, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Following participation in the summit and thematic panel sessions, the Vietnamese delegation joined a ministerial roundtable on digital trust, where Deputy Minister Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Ngoc delivered an address outlining Vietnam’s efforts in implementing its national strategy on AI research, development and application until 2030.

He noted that in the first five months of this year, ministries, sectors, units and agencies have promptly performed assigned tasks, particularly government and parliamentary bodies.

Support in digital transformation will help to reduce input costs, improve management capacity, and ensure legal compliance for small and household businesses.

Amid the strong wave of digital transformation in the global, Vietnamese digital technology enterprises are steadily asserting their position by mastering technology, developing creative “Made-in-Vietnam” solutions, and continuously innovating to expand into regional and international markets.

The project aims to meet the human resources demand of the Ninh Thuan 1 and Ninh Thuan 2 nuclear power plants by 2030.

The goal is to establish a startup and innovation ecosystem comparable to Singapore’s, and once that is achieved, investors will choose to invest and launch their ventures here instead of going to Singapore, he told the "Startup and Investment" talk show held in the city last week.

By 2030, Vietnam aims to be in the top three in ASEAN and the top 50 globally in terms of digital competitiveness and e-government development. It also targets five globally recognised tech firms by 2030, and ten by 2045.

The scheme aims to strengthen Vietnam’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) capacity, fostering a workforce capable of driving innovation and participating in advanced research in strategic high-tech industries.

Welcoming the proposed partnership between KT and Vietnam's tech giant Viettel, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung suggested KT consider joining Viettel in developing low-Earth orbit satellites and generative AI for socio-economic applications, where Vietnam is building capabilities.

Regarding France-Vietnam cooperation, Dr. Erman expressed his optimism over the impact of recent bilateral agreements, especially the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed in October last year, which, he said, has created a favourable framework for technological investment.

Vietnam has deployed multiple AI-driven solutions in journalism, such as automated editing, public opinion trend analysis, and fact-checking, but has consistently placed these activities within a strict legal and ethical framework.

To prevent the risks of appropriation, redirection or forgery, the Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre (VNNIC) under the Ministry of Science and Technology recommended that individuals and organisations activate Registry Lock.

Vietnam ranks among the countries most vulnerable to cyberattacks, with over 659,000 incidents recorded in 2024. Nearly half of all Vietnamese organisations reported being attacked at least once.
