Hai Phong (VNA) – The northern port city of Hai Phong needs continued refinement of the National Assembly (NA)’s resolution on piloting several special mechanisms and policies to develop the city, with a focus on targeted and strategic amendments that facilitate the city’s breakthrough development and reform, NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man has said.

At a working session with the standing board of the local Party Committee on December 18, the top legislator hailed Hai Phong’s efforts to carry out its socio-economic development missions, emphasising the city’s robust economic performance with an expected growth rate of 11.01% in 2024, domestic revenue estimated at more than 48 trillion VND (over 1.88 billion USD), and sound socio-economic infrastructure.

Along with economic development, Hai Phong should pay due attention to other areas such as education-training, science-technology, digital transformation, poverty alleviation, and fight against drug crimes, he said, calling for better-equipped medical stations and enhanced healthcare personnel across district and commune levels to meet locals’ demands.

Man asked the city to strengthen administrative reform and improve the capacity of the officials and staff to successfully carry out digital transformation, creating favourable conditions for the country to enter a new era – the era of the nation’s rise.

According to Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Tung, the city received over 27 trillion VND from the central budget as rewards for surpassing revenue collection targets in 2021 and 2022. Besides, it completed approval for the adjustments to the Dinh Vu – Cat Hai economic zone, putting 1,400 hectares of industrial land into operation. Another achievement was increasing the average annual income for officials and employees by 26 million VND per person, benefiting over 38,000.

Earlier, Man attended a ground-breaking ceremony for Nguyen Trai bridge and surrounding urban beautification projects which are designed to enhance transportation connectivity and socio-economic development in Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city and localities in the vicinity./.
