Phnom Penh (VNA) –– Cambodia’s National Assembly and Senate held their unprecedented joint session on June 2–3, marking the first of its kind in the country’s legislative history.

On June 3, the bicameral conference unanimously adopted a resolution of the Royal Government on the agricultural system. The resolution is considered a key legal document guiding government efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector in line with national interests.

This was the third resolution approved during the two-day session, following two earlier ones on June 2 that focused on the social protection system and the informal economy, both of which were aligned with the Government's priority action plan for its seventh term.

The social protection resolution praised government efforts to support vulnerable populations, and called for expanding universal health insurance, pension reforms, and social welfare programmes to enhance resilience to economic shocks.

The resolution on the informal economy applauded the 2023–2028 national strategy for informal economy development, recognising it as a timely and appropriate response to Cambodia’s socio-economic situation. It highlighted government initiatives such as a decree on labour registration in the informal economy, the formation of digital platforms for stakeholders to register operations, and support in tax, training, finance, and social protection.

The conference was chaired by Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen and attended by National Assembly President Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, lawmakers, cabinet members, and members of the Supreme Consultation and Recommendation Council.
